Commentary on the Forty Hadith of Al-Nawawi

    Author: Jamal al-Din M. Zarabozo

Introduction by: Dr. Jaafar Sheikh Idris

    About the Book:

A comprehensive work consisting of 2 Volumes commenting on al-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith. by Jamaal al-Din M. Zarabozo

With an Introduction by Prof. Jaafar Sheikh Idris, here are just a few excerpts from Prof. Jaafar Sheikh Idris’s comments to the work:

    [gn_quote]

The reader will not be studying explanations of the hadith in a narrow sense; the reader will, in fact, be introduced to many branches of the Islamic sciences: the different sciences of hadith, the science of textual interpretation, the science of jurisprudence, law, and even Arabic language. This is a great commentary on a great book. Brother Jamaal Zarabozo is to be congratulated for producing such a scholarly book.

( Prof. Jaafar Sheikh Idris )

    [/gn_quote]

This commendable work offers a detailed analysis of forty of the most important hadith of the Prophet (Sallallahu alehe wasallam) for a Muslim to understand. Beginning with a biography of Imam Al-Nawawi, the author then explains each hadith in depth. Each hadith features the Arabic text, English translation, selected vocabulary in Arabic with English translation, general comments, circumstances behind the hadith, brief biography of the narrator and then a detailed commentary that explains the hadith’s major subjects. Each subject is studied from a logical and shariah point of view, deducing the lessons of the hadith for the reader. The author then familiarizes the reader with the interpretations of the great scholars and provides his own interpretation. It would not be incorrect to say that this is an important study for any student of hadith.

Thulaathiyyaat – From Musnad Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal

    Translator: Nasiruddin Al-Khattb

Reports of Imam Ahmad that have only three narrators between him and the Prophet (Sallallahu Alehe Wasallam)

    About the Book:

Amongst the countless blessings which Almighty Allah has bestowed upon the Muslims is that He has preserved their religion for them and provided the appropriate means for Islam to be safeguarded and preserved, in that He has raised erudite scholars through whom the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet, Muhammad ibn Abdullaah (Sallallahu Alehe Wasallam), the seal of the prophets, has been preserved. Thus the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alehe Wasallam) provide evidence against mankind. One of the scholars through whom Allah preserved the Sunnah was Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (Rahimahullah), and one of the books that he wrote to preserve the Sunnah is al-Musnad, which is one of the major collections of the noble Sunnah.

Muslim scholars, particularly hadeeth scholars, were keen on ahaadeeth with few narrators between the hadeeth reporter and the Prophet (Sallallahu Alehe Wasallam). In fact, Imaam Ahmad reported more than three hundred “thulaathiyyaat”, ahaadeeth with only three narrators between him and the Prophet (Sallallahu Alehe Wasallam). These ahaadeeth were collected from al-Musnad by Shaikh Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Saalim as-Saffaareenee al-Hanbalee (Rahimahullah) in a separate book.

This example clearly points to the great care shown by hadeeth scholar to the Prophet’s Sunnah, as they were keen to compile the Sunnah with the soundest chains of narrators (isnaad) and convey it in the easiest manner possible, from leading scholars of hadeeth who were of extremely good character and who approached the reports with accuracy and deep knowledge, in compliance with to the Prophet’s instructions:

    [gn_quote]

Convey [whatever you learn] from me. even if it is just one verse.

By Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-Uthaymin

    About the Book:

Allah Subhana ta’ala has sent Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alehe wassalam) with the guidance and religion of truth that it may prevail over all falsehood. Furthermore, he has been commanded to present all of the religion of Islam to mankind. So Allah Azza wa Jal revealed to him the Book (Al-Qur’an) and the Wisdom (the Sunnah) and commanded him to explain to the people what has been sent down to them, in order for them to ponder over, act upon and benefit from. Thus the Qur’an and the Sunnah are the two sources by which Allaah Tabarak Wa ta’ala has provided and establish the Hujja (proof) against His slaves and upon these two sources is built the ruling of belief and action (i.e. what beliefs and actions constitute the Shari’ah – the Divine Law).

So whoever uses Qur’anic text a source of proof, he only has to check the validity of the tafseer (explanation) of that text and does not need to check the authenticity of it’s isnad (chain of narrators). This is because the whole text of Qur’an was transmitted amongst the people in Mutawatir (multiple) form, therefore there is no doubt whatsoever regarding it’s authenticity. Furthermore, the Qur’an is set or fixed in both it’s text and it’s meanings, so no one can change or alter it.

However anyone who wishes to use the Sunnah as a source of proof has to be certain that it fulfills two important conditions:

    1) The Sunnah been transmitted is truly connected to the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallahu Alehe wassalam) (i.e. the hadeeth is authentic)

    2) The tafseer (explanation) of the hadeeth points to the proof, which is been established by the hadeeth.

So due to the first point, it was necessary to formulate a set of rules and principles as guidelines to differentiate between narrations which were authentically transmitted from the Prophet (Sallallahu Alehe wassalam) and those which had been falsely attributed to him. The Scholars of the past have under taken this enormous task and responsibility in collecting the various rules and principles regarding this subject, under the title “Mustalah Al Hadeeth” (the study/science of narrations).

Shaykh al-Uthaymeen gives readers a concise work, affordable and educational, on the rules and terminologies of hadeeth.

The Muslims in general believe that the Qur’an has been preserved intact and pure by Allah Himself. But what is often forgotten by many is that this preservation necessarily includes the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alehe Wassalam), the practical example of the implementation of the Qur’an. Hadith is Sunnah in record. How the immense wealth of Hadith literature has been left to us by the Muhaddiths (scholars of Hadith) is an extremely wide, complex study. We publish this short treatise on “the science of Hadith” by the learned Suhaib Hasan with English readers in mind.

The Book Al-Adab Al-Mufrad translated from the original Arabic into English, provides a vivid insight into the moral conduct of the early Muslims in a society led by the perfect character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet’s Companions represent excellent examples of men of vigorous moral stature whose conduct inspired and attracted the masses to the fold of Islam wherever they went during the expansion of the Muslim territories, contrary to the stereotype portrayal in the West of Islam as being spread by the sword only.

    Author: Dr. Mustafa as-Siba’ee

The Sunnah and its Role in Islamic Legislation is a groundbreaking effort by Dr. Mustafa as-Siba’ee, for it has a completeness to it in two regards: first, the author manages to cover all topics related to the Sunnah—its status, its legislative force, the stages that led to its recording, just to mention a few—in a comprehensive and organized manner. Second, he presents the views of those that have attacked the Sunnah throughout history, detailing their arguments and then refuting them. Among those groups from the past were the Shi’a and the Mu’tazilah; today, they are mainly the Orientalists and those that are influenced by them.

Shaykh as-Siba’ee takes us through the historical development of the Sunnah, from the early stages of revelation to the recording of the Sunnah during the era of the great Imams of Hadith. Throughout that account, he highlights the contributions of the scholars in preserving the Sunnah and cleansing it from fabrications and lies. Shaykh as-Siba’ee gives a clear account of the revolutionary methods and scholarly principles that were established in order to authenticate historical reports and narrations. The author shows us that the fruits of that endeavor were the preservation of the authentic Sunnah and the birth of the Hadith sciences.

This book has been a perennial source of knowledge for Arabic-speaking students of Islam, for its clarity, readability, and insightful research. New English-speaking students too have available to them this authoritative treatise on the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

    Translator: Syed Maqsood-ul-Hasan

The main source of Islamic Shariah is Qur’an which is revealed in the exact words of Allah (swt) hence it is termed as Wahy Matlu (oft-Recited Revelation in Allah’s words). Qur’an covers the Divine orders, guiding principles and other facts in a general form. The second source is Hadith which are the Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (saws). Ahadith inform us about the practical aspects of Divine commandments for human life and provide explanations and demonstrations of the basic principles outlined by Allah (swt. ).

Infact Ahadith are the sayings, deeds and approvals of the Prophet (saws) under Divine guidance, so these are termed as Wahy Ghair Matlu or Wahy Marvi (Revelation narrated in the words of the Prophet (saws)). Thus Ahadith are an indispensable to a Muslim as the Qur’an is to understand Islam and act according to it.

Some Ahadith hold a distinct place and are termed as Ahadith Qudsi (Sacred Traditions). Generally Ahadith are traced back to the Prophet (saws) as regards their authority, but the authority in Ahadith Qudsi is attributed to Allah swt through the Prophet saws. The distinction between the Qur’an and Ahadith Qudsi is that the Qur’an is in the direct wording of Allah as from Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz (the preserved tablet) while Ahadith Qudsi are from Allah as to the meaning and from the Prophet as to the wording.

This book is a collection of Ahadith Qudsi relating to the important aspects of daily life so that the readers may get benefited from it for the success in this life as well as hereafter. Original text of the Ahadith  in Arabic language is also given with the English translation because the translation do not cover the full meanings of the original language.
