Towards Understanding Of Tadmuriyyah – Ibn Taymiyyah & Ibn Uthaymin

    About This Book

This is an introductory book that discusses Risalah at Tadmouriyyah which is ultimately the answer Ibn Taymiyyah provided to the students of the city of Tadmur in Shaam, on the names and attributes of Allah, and the aspects of the Divine Decree and Legislation.

Yet this Risalah is complex and intended for advanced students, this is why Al-Sheikh Uthaymin’s (this) book helps to understand the context and issues of the book of Ibn Taymiyyah and familiarize students with topics. This book is known as ‘Taqrib At Tadmuriyyah’ or ‘towards understanding of Tadmuriyyah’.

    The Belief of Ahlu’l-Sunnah Wa’l-Jama’ah

By Imam Abu Muhammad Abdullah Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani

With Commentary of Shaikh Ahmad ibn Yahya Al-Najmi

    Accompanying Arabic Text

This is the translation of Muqaddimah Al-Risalah ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani by Imam Abu Muhammad Abdullah Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani (310-389 AH), with commentary of Shaikh Ahmad ibn Yahya Al-Najmi (d. 1429 AH) and the accompanying Arabic text. The author was asked to write a short treatise on the fundamentals of belief and creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah. This work was written in response to that request, wherein the author explains the obligatory aspects of Islam, those that should be pronounced by the tongue, believed in the heart, acted upon the limbs and acts of Sunnah related to the foundations of faith.

This detailed work covers many aspects of faith, jurisprudence and character. It commences with belief in Allah, His Names and Attributes and the applied principles in understanding them. It also discusses the Quran, seeing Allah, punishment of the grave and events that will occur therein, the Divine Decree, companions of Allah’s messenger and other important aspects of faith. He calls to following the way of the Salaf and adhering to the knowledge and guidance they left for the community. Creed is not just mere code of belief but it has a practical role, which translates into qualities, characteristics and actions that every Muslim must adhere to and accompany. When writing this tract the author has kept the young and mature in mind, hence keeping the work very simple to read and understand – placing it ideally as an educational textbook. Knowing the creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah is compulsory for every Muslim, learning and memorizing it is also an important aspect of this pristine faith.

    About the Author

Imam Ibn Abi Zayd Al-Qayrawani was a leading imam and an Islamic scholar from North Africa. He was an exegete and a jurist who was known as ‘little Malik’ because of his vast knowledge and expertise in the Maliki school of fiqh. He authored over thirty works on various Islamic disciplines. He was very pious, deeply religious and steadfast in his adherence to the Sunnah.

    Imam al-Dhahabi said of him:

He, may Allah have mercy on him, was upon the way of the pious predecessors concerning the fundamentals of Islam.

Author:  Sheykh ul Islam Ibn Taymiyah

Abridged By: Shaykh ‘Abd Allah al-Ghunayman

One of the classical works and considered as a slicing sword when it comes to the matter of refuting the Shi’a, Rafida and the Qadariyya. This work is based on extensive debate of the Imam with the aforementioned groups and thus covers a lot of their defunct arguments. It has been abridged so as to make the original work that was too large, to make it easier for readers to read and digest.

    About the Author:

Shaykh al-Islam Taqi ud-Din Abu’l-Abbas Ahmad Ibn al-Halim ibn Abd al-Salam Ibn Taymiyah al-Hanbali was born in 661 AH (1263 AC) in Haran, which is now in Eastern Turkey near the border of northern Iraq. His family had long been renowned for its learning . Among his teachers was Shams ud-Din Al-Maqdisi, the first Hanbali Chief Justice of Syria following the reform of the judiciary by Baibars. The number of Ibn Taimiyah’s teachers exceeds two hundred. Ibn Taimiyah was barely seventeen years old when Qadi Al-Maqdisi authorized him to issue Fatwa (legal verdict). Qadi remembered with pride that it was he who had first permitted an intelligent and learned man like Ibn Taimiyah to give Fatwa. At the same age he started delivering lectures. When he was thirty, he was offered the office of Chief Justice but he refused it as he could not persuade himself to follow the limitations imposed by the authorities.

Imam Ibn Taimiyah’s education was essentially that of a Hanbali theologian and jurisconsult. But to his knowledge of early and classical Hanbalism, he added not only that of the other schools of jurisprudence but also that of other literature. He had an extensive knowledge of Quran, Sunnah, Greek philosophy, Islamic history, and religious books of others, as is evident from the variety of the books he wrote. May Allah swt have mercy on his soul.
